Following the general interest in the work being carried out by the Monnow Improvement Partnership (MIP), it was agreed in the summer of 2000 that a body should be set up to represent all those with an involvement in the River Monnow.

The Monnow Fisheries Association
The MFA was created in June 2000. The main consensus of the initial discussions
was that there was a common desire to help restore the river to its former
glory. Accordingly the MFA will enable a coordinated approach to be taken
to this.
It is also intended that the MFA will support initiatives, such as MIP, to
improve the habitat, and also take other financial, administrative and practical
steps that will help the river as a whole.
It is hoped that in due course we can help improve the capacity of the river
to support wild trout, grayling and other wildlife. In the process the quality
of the fishing should be improved and there will be associated benefits for
the local communities where an interest in fishing and the local fisheries
will help support local business.
